Dan Hager is a founding partner of AV rated Roeca Haas Hager LLP and for more than twenty years has represented and counseled lawyers and law firms. He is a recognized expert in lawyers' malpractice prevention and legal ethics, providing consultations and related risk management services to lawyers, firms, and lawyers' E&O carriers nationwide. He also has extensive experience defending lawyers and other professionals against malpractice and malicious prosecution claims and representing clients in commercial and appellate litigation.

Dan has a unique background in malpractice prevention, ethics, and law practice management. He has served as national loss prevention counsel for major insurers, consulting with hundreds of lawyers to avoid claims, take corrective action, or mitigate damages. For seven years he was in-house counsel to the firms of Long & Levit and Landels Ripley & Diamond, establishing and overseeing their systems for preventing malpractice and ethics claims, resolving such claims when they arose, and counseling firm management on wide ranging issues. Complementing his loss prevention and ethics counseling, Dan has extensive experience defending lawyers and other professionals in malpractice, malicious prosecution, partnership disputes, and other litigation. He has represented lawyers in practice areas including: toxic torts, estate planning, criminal law, municipal law, workers compensation, personal injury, family law, real estate, immigration, elder law, construction defect, and commercial litigation. He represents lawyers in State Bar disciplinary proceedings and serves as an expert witness on ethical issues as well.

   
  Dan also has extensive experience in commercial litigation in state and federal courts. He practices appellate law as well, having served for two years as staff attorney for Justice John Benson of California's First District Court of Appeal.

Dan received his bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1981. He received his law degree in 1985 from the University of California, Davis. He is admitted to practice in California state and federal courts. He is also a member of the Bar Association of San Francisco. Dan served on BASF’s Law Practice Management Section Executive Committee from 1993 – 1997, 2006 – present, serving as its Chair in 2007.
