Russ Roeca is a founding partner of AV rated Roeca Haas Hager LLP and is an active trial lawyer.  Russ’ litigation and trial practice principally involves professional liability, real estate, healthcare, insurance, and related commercial and business litigation.  His professional liability practice includes representing attorneys, parties to real estate transactions, including principals and real estate agents and brokers, healthcare practitioners, and related product liability litigation. Russ was previously the managing partner of the west coast office of a national law firm.  He has been named a “super lawyer” in northern California by his colleagues in the profession.  In addition to his active trial practice, Russ is active in the community.  He currently serves as an officer, Treasurer, of the Bar Association of San Francisco.  He previously served as a member of the Board of Governors of the State Bar of California from 2001 to 2004. He currently is serving on the State Bar's Council on Access & Fairness.

In more than twenty five years of practice, Russ' extensive jury trial experience has included representation of attorneys in a wide range of practice areas, commercial and residential real estate agents and brokers, insurance agents and brokers, prosecution and defense of real estate fraud, and prosecution and defense of actions for malicious prosecution.  He has represented a wide variety of healthcare professionals.  Russ and his partners also work with their clients in the transactional setting as part of loss prevention and quality assurance.

   
 

Russ has represented institutional clients providing loss prevention guidance and auditing services, and served many years as a member of a national healthcare company’s major claims strategic evaluation committee, evaluating claims for strategic planning purposes. 

   
 

Russ’ extensive representation of attorneys also includes partnership and fee disputes, defense of disciplinary claims, and counseling on ethical issues.

  Educational, Professional, and Community Activities
   
 

Russ' professional activities include membership in the American Bar Association, the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California, and the State Bar of California. He served as Chair of the Legal Malpractice Committee and on the Board of Directors of the Bar Association of San Francisco. Russ frequently serves as a court appointed judicial arbitrator in San Francisco, as a panelist with the Bar Association of San Francisco’s early settlement program, and as judge pro tem for the Alameda County Superior Court.

   
 

Russ currently serves as an officer of the Board of Directors of the Bar Association of San Francisco.  He previously represented the 4th District (San Francisco and Marin County) as a member of the Board of Governors of the State Bar of California.  He also served eight years as a Commissioner on the San Francisco Fire Commission, appointed by Mayor Brown in 1996.

   
 

Russ is active in the community.  He values diversity in the profession and has worked to open the profession to be more reflective of society. Before first becoming a Director of the Bar Association of San Francisco in 1994, Russ was a member of the Bar's diversity committee and has championed the Law Academy high school Classroom to Career program co-sponsored by the Bar Association of San Francisco and the San Francisco Board of Education.  He contributes pro bono and financial support to the Aids Legal Referral Panel and the Volunteer Legal Services Program of BASF over the years.  He served on the Board of Governors of the Human Rights Campaign from 1994 until 1998 and is a longstanding member of the Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom.

   
 

Russ received his B.A. degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. He is admitted to practice in California state and federal courts, and the United States Supreme Court.
